Itchy Scalp Problems?
Probably a moisture problem...
We have received many questions about itchy scalp. Most people would assume that itchy scalp probably means the scalp is in need of some sort of moisture. But with curly hair, and especially very thick curly hair, sometimes the scalp doesn't breath well or doesn't get enough air flow over the scalp. Meaning it actually has too much moisture in it, causing itchiness and redness and sometimes even dandruff.

Before trying to treat your itchy scalp with added moisture, we suggest giving it a good wash and blow drying the scalp. This often clears up irritation in one shot. A great way to do this is to wash the hair, and twist or braid the hair into about 12-15 braids or twists. Then on low heat, blow dry the scalp for about 5 minutes. After a day or two you may see some dead skin cells falling off the scalp. This is normal. With the next wash you can style as usual. If this relieves your itchy scalp, it may be a good idea to do this every now and then to avoid irritation.
